Job Description

Summary

In this role, the trainee will gain comprehensive, hands-on experience across the full wastewater-based epidemiology workflow, building both technical laboratory skills and an understanding of applied research processes. Under the guidance of research staff, the intern will engage in all stages of the sequencing pipeline, including reviewing standard operating procedures (SOPs), adhering to laboratory safety protocols, and maintaining accurate quality control documentation.

The trainee will develop practical skills in wastewater sample handling and processing, assisting with sample preparation and performing nucleic acid extraction using established laboratory methods. They will participate in key molecular workflows such as library preparation and target capture/enrichment, while also observing and supporting sequencing runs. Throughout these activities, the intern will apply quality control practices, conduct routine checks, and document results to ensure data integrity. This experience will provide a holistic understanding of the end-to-end sequencing process, from initial sample handling through data documentation, within a collaborative and research-driven environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution.
