What you will do
The California Controversy Group focuses on consulting and controversy for California income/franchise and sales/use tax matters, representing clients at audit, protest, or appeal before one of the California state tax agencies. As a Staff, you will be based in Sacramento, and your role will include:
Analyzing current and evolving tax law to provide insightful consultation to clients.
Collaborating effectively within a team, capable of both leading and following directives.
Demonstrating initiative in learning and tackling challenging tax subjects.
Exhibiting strong research and writing skills
Demonstrating strong organizational skills, juggling multiple projects simultaneously
Job requirements and preferences
Required qualifications
A predicted Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or a Master of Laws (L.L.M) in tax.
An undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
Professional knowledge or coursework in state and local tax.
An achieved or partially achieved CPA qualification, certification as a member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, or the ability to sit for a state bar.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Based in Sacramento, CA or willing to relocate.
The ability and willingness to travel and work in excess of standard hours when necessary.
Access to reliable transportation to/from the EY office and client sites. A driver’s license is strongly recommended as ride share and public transportation options may not be available in all locations.
Preferred qualifications
At least one year in a professional services or tax organization.
Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
